Benefits to the community

  • A dog park will help to promote responsible pet ownership and the enforcement of dog control laws.
  • It offers a place for dogs to exercise and socialize safely thus reducing episodes of barking and other problem behaviours
  • It provides senior and disabled owners an accessible place to exercise their companion and an area for community-building socializing.
  • It’s not just a place for dogs but for people as well. For example, some elderly people would love to have a dog but are unable to. They can go to the park and enjoy the dogs at their convenience.
  • When possible, our approach to the park will be done with the “green” approach in mind.
  • An off-leash park encourages a sense of community as dog owners meet their neighbours and have a place to gather and discuss local issues. It’s a family activity.
  • Park activities are a proven deterrent to criminal activity.
  • The charm and unique nature of this type of park would go a long way towards attracting people to our area. This would therefore increase revenue for shops and stores in Morrisburg and area and allow local small businesses to better compete with neighbouring cities. Some of the local business people have already said that from their experience they feel they would benefit from the presence of a dog park. Activities that may attract people include the possibility of functions like pet adoptions, educational efforts geared toward dog owners, obedience classes and dog park safety classes, dog shows, agility training/competitions and licensing fairs.
  • The ParkPals requirement that all dogs using the park must be licensed will increase the township revenue.
  • This type of area promotes physical and social activity for all who partake in it thus promoting a healthier lifestyle for all involved.
  • The established dog park can look at continued fund raising for the purposes of giving back to the community.
  • Dog park use will be free of charge and an added value to licensing.
